Part council, part advisory, part board of directors, The Seven are the brilliant folks that keep The OWN going strong and smart!  It's our conviction that a company and community so outstanding shouldn't be limited to one persons best ideas! With this conviction, we ask an OWNer, a Member, a Mentor, a Financial Advisor, and a key community individual to join two directors of The OWN, making a board of Seven to help steer The OWN's growth, make better financial decisions, and give general feedback.  We meet bi-monthly to review OWNer submission forms, make long term operational decisions, and brainstorm ways to make our company even more amazing.

If you're interested in serving a 1 or 2 year term on our wonderful board, please use the submission form below!

Meet The Seven:

Samantha Ellis

Samantha, Founder & CEO

Samantha started The OWN in 2014 because she wanted to empower fellow business women by providing them access to the tools they need:

"I'm happy to be a part of this company, and even happier that I get to do what I love every day. I'm the one you'll meet with when you join as an OWNer or Member, and I'm the one who will absolutely quote Ron Swanson or Leslie Knope (or anyone from Friends) the first time we're introduced."

Katie Hammer, Member

I am excited to be a part of a company that supports other women in their entrepreneurship and business ventures.  I hope to use my experience in commercial banking at First Interstate Bank to guide Owners who may not be familiar yet with that aspect of the business world.  What I love most about the Own is the positive and encouraging spirit of all involved.

I love to spend time adventuring in the Hills with my husband and 1 ½ year old son.  We love to try new things and explore new places.  Recently, we found a really great campsite at Center Lake, and rode our bikes on a beautiful stretch of the Mickelson Trail near Deadwood.

David E. Lust is a partner with Gunderson, Palmer, Nelson & Ashmore, LLP and is a member of the firm's Business/Estate Planning group where he assists businesses and individuals with their business planning and litigation needs.
Prior to joining Gunderson, Palmer, Nelson & Ashmore, LLP., he served as a law clerk for United States District Court Judge Richard H. Battey. David is licensed to practice law in the federal and state courts of South Dakota.

David is an active member of various legal groups and organizations including the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (NCCUSL), the Business Law Section and the Bench-Bar Liaison Committee of the State Bar of South Dakota. He is also a member of the Business Section of the American Bar Association and was the South Dakota representative for the development of the Revised Model Business Corporation Act. David served for eight years in the South Dakota House of Representatives from 2006 to 2014.  He was House Majority Leader for four of those years.

Nina Braun, Member & Financial Advisor

Love brought Nina to South Dakota.  She is a transplant from New Jersey. Her immigrant parents wouldn’t pay for a liberal arts education, so she went to business school and got her CPA.  She’s currently a partner at Ketel Thorstenson, LLP.  Her passion is helping people (especially women) start their own business ventures.

If you want to engage in some lively conversation, let’s talk about local politics, Bruce Springsteen, NCAA basketball (go Hoyas!), and bad young adult fiction.  I spend most of my free time raising two girls, water skiing, helping my husband rehab old buildings and finding reasons to entertain guests.

Laura Longville, LAC

Laura Longville, OWNer

Laura Longville LAC is an intensive specialist, trainer, speaker and writer. She has worked as a therapist for 30 plus years. She is the founder and CEO of Walking in Grace, Inc.; a faith based counseling center in Rapid City, SD. For 23 years Laura has been a consulting therapist for Onsite Workshops in Nashville, TN, the national leader in therapeutic programs.

Laura joined The OWN because she values relationships. Women helping women is powerful and inspiring! She is married to her high school sweetheart, mother of 3 amazing women and a Nana to two grandsons. Life is full of family, friends, hiking, biking, snow shoeing and hanging out on her pontoon boat.

Jackie Nettleton, Member & Mentor

Jackie has been the unofficial mentor of The OWN since it's conception.  Helping to guide and further the company that supports business women, Jackie has the experience from more than 10 years of business ownership herself.  Her company, Mountain Movers Construction, has been serving the midwest for over a decade.

Jackie's involvement with The Seven is a clear connection.  We're excited to bring her more directly into the operational aspect of The OWN!
