First tell us about your business--how and why did you start it?

I've been a writer and editor since the third grade when I developed my own newspaper for my class. My love for words continued through high school and college, where I earned a bachelor's degree in journalism and a Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing. It's only natural that today I focus on helping clients with writing, editing, and public relations to help them convey messages in a concise and creative manner. I also love teaching creative writing, especially to older adults who wish to pen their life stories. This is a passion of mine, and I am trying to expand my business more into this area. I teach for Community Education of the Black Hills, for the Adult Day Center of the Black Hills, for local conventions, and for small groups. I started my Doctor of Education degree with the University of South Dakota this year to learn even more about the field of education and how I can help people learn to write their life stories.

What services do you provide?

Writing, editing, and teaching are my focus areas.

Who can benefit from your services?

I think anyone who needs help crafting their message or story can benefit from a consultation with me. I bring a diverse set of skills into the marketplace, and I look forward to meeting with clients with unique needs.

What is a word of advice you can offer to other women in business?

Don't allow yourself to be boxed in to one idea of success. For me, success takes different forms every week.

Why do you love The OWN?

The OWN has really helped me get the word out on my services, and it's a supportive atmosphere for any woman hoping to surround herself with like-minded career women.
