First tell us about your business--how and why did you start it?

I've been a writer and editor since the third grade when I developed my own newspaper for my class. My love for words continued through high school and college, where I earned a bachelor's degree in journalism and a Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing. It's only natural that today I focus on helping clients with writing, editing, and public relations to help them convey messages in a concise and creative manner. I also love teaching creative writing, especially to older adults who wish to pen their life stories. This is a passion of mine, and I am trying to expand my business more into this area. I teach for Community Education of the Black Hills, for the Adult Day Center of the Black Hills, for local conventions, and for small groups. I started my Doctor of Education degree with the University of South Dakota this year to learn even more about the field of education and how I can help people learn to write their life stories.

What services do you provide?

Writing, editing, and teaching are my focus areas.

Who can benefit from your services?

I think anyone who needs help crafting their message or story can benefit from a consultation with me. I bring a diverse set of skills into the marketplace, and I look forward to meeting with clients with unique needs.

What is a word of advice you can offer to other women in business?

Don't allow yourself to be boxed in to one idea of success. For me, success takes different forms every week.

Why do you love The OWN?

The OWN has really helped me get the word out on my services, and it's a supportive atmosphere for any woman hoping to surround herself with like-minded career women.

First tell us about your business--how and why did you start it?

I started my business because of a need to help schools. I provided technical support to schools during the No Child Left Behind era. From there, I began to expand into the nonprofit sector and for-proft companies. I enjoy having the ability to help people see their potential through strategic planning and leadership development.

What services do you provide?

I provide organizational support through strategic planning, personnel evaluations, grant/proposal writing, and leadership development.

Who can benefit from your services?

Small businesses, volunteer boards of directors, nonprofits, and task forces.

What is a word of advice you can offer to other women in business?

Find a support system and make time for connecting to that system (one or more people). It helps to build perspective and keeps you from drowing in your own world.

Why do you love The OWN?

I know I have a group of people I can contact when I am needing help. It is a support mechanism.

We are a full service real estate team. In addition to representing buyers and sellers we offer education on the market and services for past and prospective clients looking for vendors – from roofers to interior design. One of our core principles is the connection. Three times a year we invite past clients and friends to gather with us and celebrate. We like to feature local businesses for raffle items and for the event locale. We do a spring brewery mixer, a summer pool party and a holiday reception.

What services do you provide?
I provide well-women care with annual exams, birth control, holistic health and preventative care. I also provide care through pregnancy, labor, birth, postpartum, and newborn care. Certified Nurse Midwives can provide prescriptions, order labs, ultrasounds, and manage healthcare needs for all healthy women and babies.

Over the years, I've watched women come together who barely know each other, share their journeys, and build one another up with care and kindness.  I've seen women in competing industries share their secrets with one another, for no good reason.  I've witnessed these women in The OWN be better at community than anything I've ever experienced in another setting.  Women amaze me every day with their tenacity, their strength, their intelligence, their softness, their openness, and their cunningness.

Jenny Hoover moved from California, and told us her clients didn't mind; "In fact, most of my initial clients were referred to me from the agencies I was working with. I still have most of them as my clients today, even after a cross-country move."
