First tell us about your business--how and why did you start it?
I was practicing as a Certified Nurse Midwife in Colorado when my family decided to return to South Dakota (where my husband and I are both from). I was shocked to realize there are no midwives in South Dakota! In Colorado there are midwives in the hospital, birth center, clinics, etc. Everyone uses a midwife there. I felt there was a huge need here in South Dakota, so I started a business to offer women the chance to have a Certified Nurse Midwife for well-women care, pregnancy, and birth. I am hoping that we start to see more options for care providers for women in this area.
What services do you provide?
I provide well-women care with annual exams, birth control, holistic health and preventative care. I also provide care through pregnancy, labor, birth, postpartum, and newborn care. Certified Nurse Midwives can provide prescriptions, order labs, ultrasounds, and manage healthcare needs for all healthy women and babies.
Who can benefit from your services?
Any women who is desiring a holistic approach to their healthcare needs. Also, any women who is interested in midwifery care for their pregnancy, labor, and birth.
What is a word of advice you can offer to other women in business?
Take a leap, and trust your instincts. Surround yourself with people who are encouraging and can help guide you though laboring your business, birthing it, and helping it grow and succeed.
Why do you love The OWN?
The OWN provides everything I just mentioned above! Such a brilliant and motivating group of women who support one another. I am SO happy I joined The OWN!
