This Christmas, we at The OWN have a special invitation for you.  It’s not fancy, it won’t cost anything, and there’s no rsvp to respond with.

Our invitation is that you take a little time to remind yourself and those around you that you and they are loved.

The astoundingly intelligent Fred Rogers (the Mr. Rogers) once said “I don’t think anyone can grow unless he’s loved exactly as he is now; appreciated for what he is rather than what he will be.”  We think that’s true, and worth repeating.

For some of us, it might be easier to give this advice away rather than receive it ourselves.  It’s hard to be looked straight in the eye and told “you’re doing a good job”, or “you matter to me”, or sometimes even “I care for you”.  If you’re one of those people, know this: you’re doing a good job, you matter, and you’re cared for.

The holidays can be a time of great joy, and also a time of deep sadness.  Many times it’s everything in between.  This Christmas, please take time to reflect on the many ways you matter- how loved you are and what things you can and should be proud of.  Let yourself count your blessings, but also let yourself realize that you yourself are a blessing, too.  We know from all the things- the items- that one can give and receive this time of year, the best will always be love.  Let yourself soak that in this holiday season, and have a Merry Christmas.

With love,

First tell us about your business--how and why did you start it?

I started my business because of a need to help schools. I provided technical support to schools during the No Child Left Behind era. From there, I began to expand into the nonprofit sector and for-proft companies. I enjoy having the ability to help people see their potential through strategic planning and leadership development.

What services do you provide?

I provide organizational support through strategic planning, personnel evaluations, grant/proposal writing, and leadership development.

Who can benefit from your services?

Small businesses, volunteer boards of directors, nonprofits, and task forces.

What is a word of advice you can offer to other women in business?

Find a support system and make time for connecting to that system (one or more people). It helps to build perspective and keeps you from drowing in your own world.

Why do you love The OWN?

I know I have a group of people I can contact when I am needing help. It is a support mechanism.

What is a word of advice you can offer to other women in business?

Don't give up. Always be open to learning, surround yourself with positive go-getters who like to see those around them succeed.  Write down your ultimate goal. Go back to it often, on good days so you can feel the accomplishment of getting closer to it, and on bad days so you can calm down and refocus ;-)

Why do you love The OWN?

I love the OWN, as that's where I find these other amazing women to surround myself with.  They're all amazing and truly making the world a better place.

We are a full service real estate team. In addition to representing buyers and sellers we offer education on the market and services for past and prospective clients looking for vendors – from roofers to interior design. One of our core principles is the connection. Three times a year we invite past clients and friends to gather with us and celebrate. We like to feature local businesses for raffle items and for the event locale. We do a spring brewery mixer, a summer pool party and a holiday reception.

What services do you provide?
I provide well-women care with annual exams, birth control, holistic health and preventative care. I also provide care through pregnancy, labor, birth, postpartum, and newborn care. Certified Nurse Midwives can provide prescriptions, order labs, ultrasounds, and manage healthcare needs for all healthy women and babies.

Over the years, I've watched women come together who barely know each other, share their journeys, and build one another up with care and kindness.  I've seen women in competing industries share their secrets with one another, for no good reason.  I've witnessed these women in The OWN be better at community than anything I've ever experienced in another setting.  Women amaze me every day with their tenacity, their strength, their intelligence, their softness, their openness, and their cunningness.

Jenny Hoover moved from California, and told us her clients didn't mind; "In fact, most of my initial clients were referred to me from the agencies I was working with. I still have most of them as my clients today, even after a cross-country move."
